Mandated Sportsmanship Education
High school and youth sports continue to see a dramatic increase in poor sportsmanship incidents. Coaches and educators desperate for a solution are now mandating sportsmanship education as a part of eligibility requirements.
Through partnerships with state boards of education and high school athletic associations, STAR Sportsmanship has been mandated in several states for the 2008-09 school year:

The STAR strategy is a system that has united high school athletic associations, superintendents, principals and school board associations in a cohesive partnership to address sportsmanship and its role in defining the sports (and life) experiences of students, athletes, parents, and coaches.
Continued support from collegiate regional conferences has strengthened the impact and reach of the STAR program. In fact, the Southeastern Conference and Mountain West Conference for providing the initial grants to start the STAR program in 2002.
